Chatham village, or downtown, is very walkable and picturesque. It is lined with interesting and unusual shops housed in well-maintained, one and two story 18th century buildings. There are no parking meters downtown! Drivers actually stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. Everyone who comes to visit comments on the picture-perfect streets are lined with Cape Cod cottages and glorious gardens. When they filmed the movie, The Golden Boys, here last year, the only thing they did to downtown before shooting was to move the cars, put hay on the ground, and change some of the signs over the stores.
Our architecturally rich Main Street boasts a lively mix of restaurants, galleries and shops where merchants cater to strolling visitors from around the world. Chatham village is a true walking town. Our downtown is organized so that once your car is parked everything is available within easy walking distance. Yet, despite its relative smallness, there is no want for variety. There are enough intriguing shops and eateries to suit the whole family.
In the center of town is the information center. Like every place in town, folks are helpful and friendly. Stop in for help or suggestions; to check out the latest happenings; or to pick up brochures.

Besides the shops and delicious eateries, Friday night band concerts in the park are not to be missed. The band shell is located in Kate Gould Park: Main Street, Chatham. Free concert starts at 8 pm. The band plays show tunes mixed in with the bunny hop for the first half of the evening before moving on to classic big band music for the latter part. Arrive early to find a good spot for your blanket and pack a picnic supper or bring a pizza. Popcorn, balloons, and light sticks for sale at the park. The Chatham Town Band upholds a tradition started in 1931. It took a two year hiatus for World War I. The Band shut down again in December of 1941 with the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. It was revived after the war by W. Whitney Tileston who coordinated the band's weekly performances for 48 summers until his death at age 89. Beloved for his bubbly personality, his modesty and his sense of humor, the bandstand at was named in his honor on his 80th birthday. Now there are about 35 members from all over the Cape in the Chatham Town Band. You Can Take A Guided Shopping Tour of Main Street.
